Laser Time & Energy Sharing

The ability to couple light from one fiber to another greatly expands upon fiber laser functionality. Flexible control over beam delivery enables IPG fiber lasers to utilize power and space more effectively by addressing multiple applications simultaneously or sequentially or increasing process speed and laser duty cycle.

Options include single port couplers, beam shutters, multi-port beam switches for 2, 3, 4, or 6 channels, and a 2 port energy sharing function.

Process-Feed Fiber Couplers

Fiber couplers are often used to protect the feed fiber and the laser from the process. The use of a coupler between the fiber and beam delivery head also allows for flexible fiber changeout for quick adjustment of beam characteristics for different applications and easy fiber replacement.

Beam Shutters

A beam shutter, also known as a one-channel beam switch, is mainly used to increase process speed in a production line. Shutters decrease laser off time by allowing the laser to remain on while the shutter controls laser output.

Multi-Channel Beam Switches

Time Sharing

Beam switching allows one laser source to supply up to six different process fibers across multiple stations or work cells. This enables a single laser to address multiple different applications without manually swapping process heads or fibers. In the time sharing mode only one beam is emitted at any given time.

Energy Sharing

Beam switches can be used to "split" laser energy and direct power to multiple workstations simultaneously, enabling a single laser source to perform multiple operations at once. Energy sharing is a good option for  reducing equipment costs by using a single high-power laser rather than several lower power lasers.

A Unique Combination of Advanced Technologies

Get the Most Out of Your Laser

All IPG beam switches, shutters, and couplers can be integrated with virtually any IPG fiber laser by being built in to the laser enclosure to save space and simplify installation.
