Battery and electric vehicle manufacturers are continuously challenged to deliver consistent quality while maximizing throughput. This presentation will detail innovative laser technology and solutions from IPG that offer unique advantages in applications including welding, drying, and cutting. Key topics include dual-beam lasers that enable high-speed, spatter-free welding and real-time laser weld depth measurement that provides highly accurate weld dimensional data. 

Live Demos: Laser Welding Systems & Solutions 

IPG will hold live laser welding demonstrations highlighting the capabilities of three separate laser welding systems. The EV-Cube system is an automated laser workstation purpose-built for high-speed busbar-to-cell welding. Designed to be highly configurable, the Welding LaserCell will demonstrate live robotic laser welding. The final system, the SYS-3000-EV, which is based on the IPG’s popular multi-axis platform, is designed for EV battery R&D and process development.

Attendees will also be able to learn more about the company’s LDD technology, which uses a low-power beam fired through the same optics as the welding laser to directly measure every weld in real time. This system provides highly accurate data for more than 20 weld metrics, such as weld depth, enabling manufacturers to skip time consuming post process weld quality assurance steps like resistance testing and destructive cross sectioning.
